Lodge Based Tours
A sea kayak adventure vacation with all the comforts of home. Using a lodge as our base, these tours offer a level of convenience and comfort not available in our traditional kayak camping programs. These lodge-based programs are offered as an opportunity to enjoy and experience the delights of sea kayaking in the BROKEN ISLANDS – no matter what the weather! During rainy or windy weather, we can combine some kayaking with beachcombing, hiking or simply relaxing around the lodge’s wood burning stove. After an enjoyable day of paddling and exploring, we return to a warm and dry base, complete with hot showers, all bedding and prepared meals.
From our base, the SECHART LODGE (www.ladyrosemarine.com), there are a great variety of day trips that access most of the features that the Broken Islands are famous for. On day 1 after a 3-hour ferry ride from Port Alberni, we will introduce you to your kayak with a short introductory trip to the protected waters in the nearby Pinkerton Islands.The following days will have us more fully exploring the intricate network of waterways that surround the myriad of over 100 islands that make up the BROKEN ISLANDS. Route options are as numerous as the islands. We tend to divide the Broken Group and nearby islands into a number of clusters and plan to visit them on different days – planning a circuit route each day from the lodge.
On one of our full paddling days from Sechart Lodge , we have the option of hiring the lodge water taxi to deliver us to one of the more remote areas in the Broken Group, allowing us a chance to explore and paddle back to the lodge without retracing our route.
Persons of all experience levels will find this an excellent introduction to sea kayak touring and a great way to truly experience the wonder of paddling on Canada’s spectacular west coast.
